Arcado Elementary Lunchtime Thoughts…

The “Lunch Lady” did NOT have an easy job.

One of the reasons that I embarked on my career in real estate is that I wanted to be able to spend more time IN the lives of my children.  And today has definitely been a rung in that ladder.  I volunteered to help the small kids with lunch at Arcado Elementary School in Lilburn, GA.

Basically, the kindergartners need a Read the rest of this entry »

Get you Swim on…

DSCN3519

Have you been to the Mountain Park Aquatic Center?  If you live around Lilburn or Mountain Park, I’m sure you have noticed there on Rockbridge Road near Five Forks, just up the road from Kroger.  But have you been there?

It is a great facility.  In addition to the community center which hosts a variety of events, there is the outside recreational pool, an inside instructional pool and the lap pool. Read the rest of this entry »

Gwinnett County Parks #1!

DSCN0602

Did you know that?  I keep seeing it on a couple of Parks’ signs that are near me in Lilburn.  Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation named #1 in the USA. But it hadn’t really sunk into me…

So I decided to check it out.  I had NO clue of the level of commitment that Gwinnett had to its parks.  There are so many more facilities than the ones I was aware of… and having lived in several parts of Gwinnett in my 20 years here, I have been aware of a lot of the parks. SRBC Car Show Delayed until May 16th

The Smoke Rise Baptist Church Car Show, scheduled for today was delayed by weather.  Overnight rains forced the organizers to alter the date, fearing more poor weather.

A few cars showed up this morning, but apparently the website and email list was pretty effective at getting out the word.

One of the cars that was there this morning was this beautiful Shelby GT500 clone.  Gotta love a 428 Cobra Jet.

SRBC Car Show, May 2nd

Classy Chassis Car Show - Fake Miniature

As one door closes, another opens in its place.

As I started to look over upcoming events, I ran across a blurb that the Snellville Days ‘Orphan Vehicle Association’ Car Show had been canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.”  I have no idea what those circumstances might be, and I hope that the OVA is able to recover and present the show again next year. Rainy day plans in Gwinnett

Garrett at the track

Garrett at the Controls

Today when we got to preschool, we discovered that the school would be closed for the day due to power issues.

And the energetic 4 year old needs to get out and do some things… today was rainy and cold…  So, we decided to run out to Discover Mills and wander around.  One of the things on the long list has been hitting the Slingshot Speedway to run some laps on their GIANT slot car track.  We have spectated on multiple occasions, and it was time to step up to the controls.

When Garrett saw the Lightning McQueen car… the decision was made.  We were going to race.  The price wasn’t bad, we got 5 minutes of racing for $3 each.  Of course the cars we selected were Read the rest of this entry »
